When Jennifer returned from running the final runDisney Expedition Everest Challenge, she brought back the clues and solutions from the scavenger hunt portion of the Challenge to share with our readers. We figured that you would like this, but we did not count on just how much you would like it. Our readers told us that they loved working through the clues, and wanted more.
We shared some trivia with you in the past and with the Walt Disney World Marathon coming up we decided it was time for a quiz all things runDisney at Walt Disney World! Keep checking back for a runDisney Disneyland themed quiz.
Here is how this is going to work. We assembled 10 questions, and some of them are challenging, but hey, so is everything that is worth doing. Below each question is the answer to it, so be careful not to scroll down too far if you do not want any spoilers.
You are on the honor system here, so keep track of how you do and feel free to share your results with other Casual Runners in the comment area below, or with us via Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. But be warned, we are calling this a “challenge” for a reason! Good luck to you, now let the Casual Runner trivia challenge begin!
1) 2017 will be the 24th running of the Walt Disney World Marathon (yup that’s right 2018 will be an anniversary year) which leads us to the first question…. Which theme park did the first Walt Disney World Marathon not run thru?
*****
Answer:
The first marathon did not run thru Disney’s Animal Kingdom because this park would not be built for four more years. The course would not run thru Animal Kingdom for the first time until the 1999 WDW marathon.
2) It’s hard to believe, but runDisney was not originally known as runDisney. What was its former name?
*****
Answer:
The Walt Disney World Marathon launched the Disney Endurance Series in 1994. The Disney Endurance Series encompassed marathons, triathlons, adventure and road races at Disney. runDisney today is the road race division of Disney Sports Enterprise.
3) 1998 marked the first year of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon (the Donald Duck Half Marathon) which ran on the same day as the Walt Disney World Marathon. How many years would it be until the half marathon was run on a different day than the marathon? And for extra bonus points, True or False: The same year this happened was the inaugural Goofy Race and a Half Challenge.
*****
Answer:
It would take eight years before these races were separated onto two different days in 2006, which also happens to be the inaugural year of Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, making the statement true.
4) What significant scheduling quirk makes the 2011 Walt Disney World Marathon unique from every other Walt Disney World Marathon?
*****
Answer:
The 2011 event was the only time the Walt Disney World Marathon was run on a Monday, as opposed to a weekend. It was not very successful. Disney had such a hard time getting people to register for this race that they offered free park tickets as incentive to sign up for the race. Now, if only they still did that today!
5) Disney’s 10K Classic was the next race to be created in the runDisney series after the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. This race was created to kick off a certain celebration, to what celebration are we referring?
*****
Answer:
Disney’s 10K Classic took place on October 3rd, 1999 to launch the 15 month Millenium Celebration.
6) Fill in the blanks: Disney’s 10K Classic would evolve to become ___________ in 2005 to coincide with Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival. In 2010 this race would become _________ and was also made available to be run as a relay race.
*****
Answer:
Disney’s 10K Classic would evolve to become Race for the Taste 10K in 2005 to coincide with Epcot’s International Food and Wine Festival. In 2010 this race would become the Wine and Dine Half Marathon and was made available to be run as a relay race. The relay option was only made available for two years before being retired.
7) Today the 5K run during Wine and Dine Weekend is Christmas themed, originally being called Mickey’s Jingle Jungle 5K but this past year was called Mickey’s Holiday 5K. However, when this race first originated in 2010, what was the theming of this race and where was it run?
This race was originally Halloween themed in 2010 and it ran thru Magic Kingdom. The next year this race would move to it’s current home in Animal Kingdom and was referred to as the Wine and Dine Weekend Family Fun Run 5K. In 2012 it would get the Christmas theming.
8) The Tower of Terror Race weekends have come and gone from the runDisney race calendar over the years. Can you name the original distance of this race and in what years it occurred followed by the second distance of this race and in what year it occurred.

*****
Answer:
This race was originally called the Tower of Terror 13K and was ran in 2007, 2008, and 2009. This race returned into 2012 but was now the Tower of Terror 10 Miler and was ran that year, 2013, and 2014. Us here at Casual Runner have our fingers crossed that this race will make a comeback as it had excellent theming and was a night race.
9) Princess Half Marathon Weekend was NOT the first race weekend geared toward women at Walt Disney World. What was this race weekend called, how long did it last, and what races were ran?
*****
Answer:
In May of 2006 the inaugural Minnie Marathon Weekend was ran and would run in 2007 and 2008 as well. The races included; Women Run the World 15K, Go Red for Women 5K, and a 1 mile run. In February 2009 this race weekend was replaced with the inaugural Princess Half Marathon and Family Fun Run 5K. For extra trivia knowledge, in 2014 the Enchanted 10K was added which also created the Glass Slipper Challenge (this is completed by running the 10K and Half Marathon that weekend).
10) If you ran every single race (available to adults) at Walt Disney World in 2017 how many miles will you have run? Also, for a bonus, assuming you only ran at Walt Disney World (no Disneyland or Disneyland Paris) how many medals will you have earned at the end of the year?
*****
Answer:
115.8 Miles! These miles come from adding together the following races: Pluto 5K (3.1 miles), Minnie Mouse 10K (6.2 miles), Donald Duck Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Mickey Mouse Full Marathon (26.2 miles), Princess 5K (3.1 miles), Enchanted 10K (6.2 miles), Princess Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Star Wars Dark Side 5K (3.1 miles), Star Wars Dark Side 10K (6.2 miles), Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Holiday 5K (3.1 miles), Wine and Dine 10K (6.2 miles), and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon (13.1 miles). So that is 13 medals, plus the Goofy Challenge Medal, Dopey Challenge Medal, Glass Slipper Challenge, Dark Side Challenge, and Lumiere’s Two Course Challenge Medal would put you at 18 Walt Disney World race medals at the end of 2017.
