runDisney Registration FAQ
The Casual Runner Team receives a lot of questions from readers, ok, what we really want to tell you is that we receive a LOT of questions about selecting and registering for races, specially, runDisney races! Many readers tell us that Jennifer knocked it out of the park with her article of tips and advice for runDisney Registration. After all, that article is our most-read article of all time (a fact that we assure you Jennifer reminds us every chance she gets). In our CR Mailbag series we try to share some of these questions, but we cannot get to them all.
We decided to compile some of the runDisney registration questions that we’ve received to help you out. Remember, these are frequently asked questions, not every question that has been asked. So, if you read this and Jennifer’s runDisney registration tips, and still have questions, let us know by reaching out to us via Facebook or Twiiter.
I want to run a challenge, do I have to sign up for all of the races that make up the challenge?
No. Any challenge that takes place during a single race weekend (such as the Fairy Tale Challenge, the Star Wars Darkside Challenge, the Dopey Challenge, well, you get the idea!) will have its own registration category. If you want to run the challenge, you must register using that option. This will register you for all races in the challenge, so you do not have to register for them individually.
The race challenge that I want to run is sold out, but the races that make up the challenge are still open. Can I run the challenge by signing up for each of the races individually?
Sorry, but no. runDisney allots a certain number of entries for each race to challenge participants. Once they are gone, they are gone. While you can still run all of the races that make up the challenge by registering for them, you will not receive any of the benefits for running the challenge (like the special event shirt or the challenge finisher’s medal).
Do I need to put in a proof of time?
The short answer is no. The longer answer is, you really want to.
So you are not required to use a proof of time, however, not having one will guarantee that you will be placed in one of the last starting corrals. So, if you have a proof of time that will allow you to be slotted in an earlier corral, by all means, you will want to use it. Trust us, you will thank us on race day!
On registration day, I either won’t have a proof of time or one that I have is slower than what I think I can run before race day, what should I do?
If you do not have a valid proof of time on registration day, don’t worry, you can log back into Active later and enter it once you receive one. If you plan on running a future race that you think will be faster than your current proof of time, go ahead and enter it, you can always go back into Active later and update it with you new, faster time. However, in either case, be mindful of the deadlines for adding or updating your proof of time as once they pass runDisney can be very unaccommodating to corral changes.
What if I don’t have my resort reservations booked and park tickets bought before registration day?
Don’t worry, these have nothing to do with race registration. Just register for the race and you can work out all of your trip details later. However, during race weekends at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, if you want to stay on-property, those rooms do book up fast, so we wouldn’t advise waiting too long to lock those plans down. Plus, you can always change them later!
Can I use Disney gift cards to pay for my race entry?
Sadly, no, but we wish you could. Registration is handled through Active, which is a third party and they do not accept Disney gift cards or Disney Vacation Account, so you will have to use a credit card to pay for your registration.
I have so many race shirts already, can I pick a different size race shirt so I can give it to a friend or family member?
Absolutely. No one is checking what size you pick, so you can select any size you want. However, if you are running a race challenge, you will only get to select a shirt size once, and all of your shirts for the individual races and the challenge will be issued in that size. There may be an opportunity at the expo to exchange shirts, but we recommend that you not count on it.
